Program Description

The goal of the Accessibility Modifications Program is to support the preservation of the City's existing housing by offering financial assistance to owner-occupied households with individuals who have a permanent disability, enabling them to make necessary accessibility improvements to their homes.

Information For You

Below you'll find drop down boxes that will guide you through the experience of this particular program.

Below is a step by step breakdown of how our process works:

1. In the beginning, our applicants are requested to submit an application using our online portal. If the applicant is unable to fill out an application online, a paper copy can be requested. If you're going to fill out a paper application, please jump to number 4.

2. When accessing our online portal, our applicants will be required to complete a pre-screening to ensure they meet the requirements of program guidelines.

3. After your application is submitted, a member of our team will reach out if there are any questions or if any additional documentation is required.

4. If you have opted to complete a paper application, a member of our team will reach out to schedule an in-person review of your application and required documents

5. Once your application has been approved, you will be contacted by a member of our Construction staff to schedule a time to complete a habitability inspection of the property and assess the overall project.

6. Once your project has been approved via our Construction staff visit, you will be contacted by our third party vender (Koremen LLC) to schedule a visit to assess the biggest hurdles presented for the client within the household.

6. A scope of work will be completed after our third party on-site visit of your household. This scope of work will be emailed to you for approval.

7. When your scope of work is verified and approved, your project will be bundled together with other projects in a bid packet.

8. Our Construction staff will reach out to schedule a time to visit your project with Koremen and contractors from our pre-approved list.

9. Bids will come back in a week or so after the contractors, Koremen, and Construction staff have visited your property.

10. Once the bids have been received, you will contacted and informed of the contractor that has been selected to complete your project.

12. Our Construction staff will reach out to schedule an in-person meeting to sign a contract, sign a few other documents, and set a start date for your project.

13. When your project is complete, you'll be contacted by our Construction staff to set up a Final Inspection. At this time, our staff will go over any issues, warranties, change orders, and final invoicing.

14. Congratulations! The process will be over and your life can get back to normal. (Hint: Don't forget to check out the section at the bottom of the screen if you're interested in any additional assistance.)

The Office of Housing and Neighborhood Services is required to test all qualified applicant's households for the presence of Radon before the project can be bid out. This is a simple and quick test performed by a third party contractor. Depending on the results, our department may need to install a radon mitigation system at no cost to our qualified applicants. In most applications this mitigation system will be installed along the exterior of the home, in the most discrete location possible. If you would like more information on this process or implications of high radon levels in your home, please feel free to reach out to the Department of Health or visit the EPA's website at https://www.epa.gov/radon/health-risk-radon.
