Barr is an Emmy and national award-winning transformational leader who collaborates with organizations that are committed to transforming their cultures and improving socioeconomic outcomes for their community stakeholders. In 2015, while serving at the Des Moines Civil and Human Rights Commission, Joshua was able to revive the commission from potential closure to a vital component of the municipal government. Notably, Barr initiated the Bridging the Gap project, which fostered community dialogues to enhance opportunity and justice citywide, resulting in the implementation of nearly 30 new policies.

In 2020, Joshua debuted his Emmy award-winning documentary Breaking Bread, Building Bridges where nearly 40 strangers were matched up together based on their differences to have dinners over the course of a few months.
