Project Description
GFL is working with the City of Fort Wayne’s Solid Waste Department to implement a rerouting schedule that will result in a change of garbage and/or recycling collection days for approximately 25% of customers. The new routes will begin on December 2, 2024.
What's My Collection Day?
2024-25 Annual Recycle Collection Schedule
Why Are We Doing This?
Drivers will have a consistent route with the changes, which will help them increase their efficiency.
GFL will incorporate more automated trucks, which are safer for employees than the rear-loading trucks being used for curb collections. This will allow them to move rear-loading trucks from curb routes to alley routes. This safety measure will help GFL retain and recruit staff as well as reduce injuries.
Since the new routes will save time, the result will be fewer trucks on the road, which means less wear and tear on City streets, safer roads for the public, and a lower carbon footprint due to the trucks using less fuel.
There will also be less wear and tear on the trucks, which will keep them in service longer, reducing possible service disruptions
