Information For You
Below is a step by step breakdown of how our process works:
1. In the beginning, our applicants are requested to submit an application using our online portal. If the applicant is unable to fill out an application online, a paper copy can be requested. If you're going to fill out a paper application, please jump to number 4.
2. When accessing our online portal, our applicants will be required to complete a pre-screening to ensure they meet the requirements of program guidelines.
3. After your application is submitted, a member of our team will reach out if there are any questions or if any additional documentation is required.
4. If you have opted to complete a paper application, a member of our team will reach out to schedule an in-person review of your application and required documents
5. Once your application has been approved, you will be contacted by a member of our Construction staff to schedule a time to complete a habitability inspection of the property and assess the overall project, with our contracted licensed professional.
6. At this same time, or a period shortly after, a member our contracted radon mitigation company will set a testing device to read the radon levels at the residence.
7. This device will be set for 48 hours until results are calculated and read over.
8. Once radon results have been interpreted, a member of our Construction Staff, and our licensed HVAC professional will schedule a time to sign our Construction No-Lien contract and set a start date for your installation.
9. If your house tests positive for high levels of Radon, our contracted Radon company will meet at the same time to sign our Construction No-Lien document and set a start date.
10. When your project is complete, you'll be contacted by our Construction staff to set up a Final Inspection. At this time, our staff will go over any issues, warranties, change orders, and final invoicing.
11. Congratulations! The process will be over and your life can get back to normal. (Hint: Don't forget to check out the section at the bottom of the screen if you're interested in any additional assistance.)
The Office of Housing and Neighborhood Services is required to test all qualified applicant's households for the presence of Radon before the project can be bid out. This is a simple and quick test performed by a third party contractor. Depending on the results, our department may need to install a radon mitigation system at no cost to our qualified applicants. In most applications this mitigation system will be installed along the exterior of the home, in the most discrete location possible. If you would like more information on this process or implications of high radon levels in your home, please feel free to reach out to the Department of Health or visit the EPA's website at https://www.epa.gov/radon/health-risk-radon.
