Project Description

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources has provided a $400,000 Indiana Trails Program grant to the City of Fort Wayne, the Town of Huntertown, the County of Allen and Fort Wayne Trails, Incorporated to design and build the Fishing Line Trail: Carroll Road Segment. The Fishing Line Trail is a multi-state trail that will run from Fort Wayne to Grand Rapids once complete.

This Carroll Road segment fills an existing gap in the Carroll Road Trail between Millstone Drive and State Road 3/Lima Road. The length of this 10-foot wide, asphalt multi-use trail will be 0.72 miles and will be constructed on the north side of the road.

Filling this gap in the Carroll Road Trail will provide connectivity to the Allen County Fairgrounds, four schools on Bethel Road, the Poka-Bache Connector/Pufferbelly Trail, the future 70-acre development at the NW corner of Lima Road and State Road 3 (former Byron Health Center) and commercial properties like Walgreen’s, Parlor Doughnuts and Pizza King. This trail segment is within 1 mile of approximately 9,240 residents of Fort Wayne and Huntertown, as well as 101 employers with just over 1,500 employees.

The trail will include amenities such as park benches, a trail counter and signage. The project will include traffic signal upgrades at Lima Road to include Accessible Pedestrian Signal (APS) and will include crosswalks with ADA Ramps at all public roads/streets.

We will make connections to the existing trail and Miller Ridge Neighborhood on the south side of Carroll Road at Millstone Drive, as well as connections to the Laurel Ridge and Carroll Estates neighborhoods on the south side of Carroll at Leatherwood Run and Carroll Lake Drive, respectively.
