Project Description

Planning and Policy staff and the Fort Wayne Historic Preservation Commission, in partnership with Visit Fort Wayne and the Allen County Public Library—Genealogy Center, have contracted with PlaceEconomics, a firm with over 30 years of experience in the quantitative analysis of the impacts of historic preservation, to complete an analysis of the economic impacts of historic preservation and heritage tourism in Fort Wayne.

The purpose of the study is to determine and communicate the value of historic preservation and heritage tourism, promote heritage tourism activities and investment in historic properties, and encourage historic district designations.

The public was invited to learn the findings of the study called “Preservation is About the Future: The Economic Impact of Historic Preservation & Heritage Tourism in Fort Wayne” during a free presentation on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, 1:45 p.m. at the Embassy Theatre, 125 W. Jefferson Blvd. This presentation was recorded and is available below.

The final report and a summary of the key findings can be viewed and/or downloaded in the Document Library below.
