The City of Fort Wayne invites the public to attend a public meeting to view plans for the Fairfield Avenue and Paulding Road Intersection Improvement Project at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 7 at the Shawnee Public Library, 5600 Noll Avenue, Fort Wayne.

This project involves the reconstruction of Paulding Road between Fairfield Avenue and South Calhoun Street in the Fairfield Terrace Belmont neighborhood. The pavement will be reduced to three lanes throughout the corridor, including one lane in each direction and a center bi-directional turn lane. On the south side of the road, all driveway approaches will be reconstructed, along with a curb face walk. A new grass park strip will be added on the north side, along with new sidewalks and reconfigured driveway approaches. Lighting will be installed throughout the corridor.

A new monument will also be constructed at the southwest corner of Paulding Road and Fairfield Avenue to serve as a gateway aimed at calming traffic. An additional monument that will function as a bench will be installed in front of Kettler Park. ADA access and pedestrian safety features will be integrated into the project. Traffic configuration at Paulding Road and South Calhoun Street will transition from a split-phase signal to a traditional signal operation with protected left turns. Additionally, a new sidewalk will be built on the west side of Fairfield Avenue to connect the entrance of Woodhurst Condos heading south to Candlelite Court.

The goal of the project is to calm traffic and ensure a safe and more effective corridor. The City of Fort Wayne's Public Works Division plans to bid on this project in early 2025 for construction during the Summer/Fall months of 2025. There may be short durations of time when the road must be closed to allow the contractor to install underground infrastructure.

This public meeting will be a time for questions from the public.

An ASL interpreter will be on site for Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals.
