Project Description

The Beacon Woods Neighborhood Activation began in January 2024 with three interested neighborhood residents in the formerly active Frances Slocum Neighborhood. After learning that the Bellair Civic Association, Brentwood Neighborhood Association, and Hazelwood Neighborhood Associations were inactive, the newly organized neighborhood worked with residents to merge them into the new, larger Beacon Woods Neighborhood Association.

In the past year, neighborhood leadership has gone door-to-door speaking with neighbors, holding neighborhood events with the goal of bringing the community together, establishing an active neighborhood association board, and encouraging further activation of the neighborhood.

What is Neighborhood Activation?

Neighborhood Activation begins with interested residents contacting the City. A City Liaison is assigned to the neighborhood and provides support, resources, and best practices over the course of 12-18 months.

The ultimate goal of Neighborhood Activation is to empower residents to independently manage their neighborhood association.

The City Liaison distributes a survey and conducts at least 50 interviews of neighborhood residents. The process concludes with a comprehensive written document on neighborhood history, demographics, and data.
