The Program
What is the Citizens Police Academy?
The Fort Wayne Police Department has found that education has been most effective in gaining understanding and support from the community. Through the implementation of the Citizens Police Academy, the FWPD offers citizens new insights into how police officers perform their duties, as well as how the department serves the community. The success of any police agency depends largely upon the amount of cooperation and support it receives from the citizens it serves.
As part of a continuing effort to develop citizens' awareness and an understanding of the role of law enforcement, the Fort Wayne Police Department has created a police academy course for citizens of all backgrounds and occupations.
