Project description
The City of Fort Wayne is beginning work that will improve safety for both vehicles and pedestrians on a key section of the South Anthony Boulevard corridor.
Due to the work, South Anthony Boulevard from Creighton Avenue to East Pontiac Street will be closed beginning Monday, May 12 until mid-August. A detour route will be posted.
As part of the Southeast Strategy, residents identified South Anthony Boulevard as a priority for improvements that could act as a catalyst for further revitalization of the surrounding area. This section from Creighton to East Pontiac is one of the proposed improvements and includes removing and replacing existing sidewalks, including:
- Adding to the Greenways network by creating an eight-foot-wide trail on the west side of the road and five-foot wide sidewalks will be built on the east side
- Narrowing traffic lanes to accommodate the trail and sidewalks, as well as slow vehicle speeds
- Adding new pedestrian lighting to increase safety and aesthetics
- Adding new asphalt and pavement markings
The existing asphalt will be milled so the street level can be lowered, allowing for six-inch curbs that create separation between the road and the sidewalks/trail
